Confidentiality
All information discussed and collected within the therapy sessions is kept confidential except what the laws of the province of British Columbia set out. I am required to report abuse or neglect of a child to the Ministery of Children and Family Development. If there is the danger of imminent harm to yourself or others, I must also report this to the appropriate authorities. In some circumstances, records can be subpoenaed by a Court of law or required as part of an ethics investigation.
All records are kept in a secured environment within my office setting. I am unable to share information with a third party unless permission to do so is granted by signing a Release of Information form. According to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, you have the right to access all relevant records created within the counselling environment unless they are deemed to be harmful to the client or they involve third party information.
